New Orleans History of our Partnership in Peru 1995 Mission Committee Begins- Even in the beginning we had the vision of one day sending short term teams to areas where our missionaries were serving. In 2004 several men in the church were involved in a short term trip to Burkina Faso that was sponsored by WTGN. At that point, our committee began to more seriously consider short term missions. We met several times as a committee with the District Mission Consultant (Tony Nelson). We also met with a group of people in the church who were interested in short term mission trips. At these meetings Tony brought to our attention a concept of Partnering in Missions. . Over the next several months, the committee continued to learn about Partnering- the reason we felt this would be good was because it would be more significant in that it was a long term commitment- we wouldn’t just go once, do a job and then come home- but we would go to the same church over a number of years, we could actually get to know them and have a relationship with them with the potential for a greater impact in all of our lives. As we explored partnering and prayed and thought about how to determine finding a partnering church, we were advised to have a workshop with the committee and leaders of the Church entitled Design your Impact Workshop. As a result of that session, we determined to take a vision trip to Peru. We worked with Jim Panaggio who paired us up with Iglesia El Alfarero. In 2007 We sent our first team of seven to Peru for a Visionary Trip- Trevor Hutchinson (team leader), John and Katie Heyward, Mark and Kim Mayer, Joel Conley, and Shawn Ward. The main ministry was teaching English. While teaching English was challenging, the people were warm and gracious and radiated Christ in such a way that we were drawn to them and loved them and began to pursue developing a partnership with them. We made up a partnering proposal and presented it to the elders and it was unanimously approved so we formally began our partnership in 2007. We have sent four trips since the first visionary trip. 2008 Construction of bedrooms and bathroom for Pastor Garcia’s apartment, Ladies’ fellowship, Outreach Dinner 2009 Joint mission trip with Iglesia el Alfarero to Chincha- constructing homes, helped with VBS- crafts, First Aid Safety and Fire Safety Demonstrations 2010 Leadership training, teaching on family (marriage), construction of a youth room, community service (trash containers), Outreach English 5th team 2011: Community outreach (service projects, picnic), Health screening/Reading Glass clinic, VBS, Cooking class/ladies’ fellowship, Family Dinner A partnership is a long-term peer relationship between a U.S. church and a national church in a foreign country based on a common vision of building up the body of Christ through a mutual exchange of resources and spiritual gifts, so that we all attain maturity and fullness in Christ.
